Everything about The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre totally explained

The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in New York's Central Park was originally built as a traditionally-constructed model schoolhouse of Baltic fir for Sweden's exhibit at the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. Frederick Law Olmsted arranged for the Cottage to be moved to its permanent home near the West Drive in Central Park. At first simply a tool shed, then adapted as a restroom, it now hosts one of the only public marionette theatre companies in the country, founded in 1939 as a touring marionette theater. In 1973 the interior was remodeled to include a permanent stage. The Swedish Cottage is listed on the Historic House registry of New York City.

Marionette Puppet Performances at the Swedish Cottage

The Swedish Cottage and its performances are managed and presented by City Parks Foundation. Master puppet makers and puppeteers create and present the marionette productions, which have included Jack and the Beanstalk, Hansel and Gretel, and original productions like Three and Cinderella Samba.
In Fall 2007, The Swedish Cottage introduced Pippi, a fresh retelling of the classic Pippi Longstocking tales by Astrid Lindgren, in which the quick-witted Pippi overcomes bullies, burglars and social conventions.
